42 & over 100lbs to loose. Looking for help.
WEll, I'm starting AGAIN. This is my first time using fitclick, myself and a friend started just yesterday. I hope that the posting will keep me on track. I'm 42 and have 130lbs to loose. I keep hearing an advertisement on TV for another one of those reality shows with fat people trying to loose weight but on this one there is a woman who says " I wake up every day on a diet and go to bed ever night a failure" Even just typing this chokes me up a little because I can relate so well to that statement. I don't know how I have let myself become this and knowing the long road ahead of me to try to get back to a comfortable weight and fitness level is daunting. This time round my strategy is to tell everyone, I'm posting here, I'm telling people at work that I'm trying to get fit I'm going to schedule a weekly bike ride with the bike club I've belonged to for years but haven't been riding with and I'm going to ask for help at my gym(also something I belong to but don't use!) maybe take a weekly class and get to know some people. I don't know, I only know that I have to change. My body as it is now frightens me, embarrasses me and disappoints me but I'm sick of hiding and am going to change it instead. Is there anyone else out there with over 100lbs to loose? Anyone who doesn't have baby weight to blame it on? Over 40? Any suggestions?

Don't be hard on yourself
I'm only 32 but I don't have any kids. About 4 years ago I lost 75 pounds. About 15 of it has crept back on so I'm working again to get back down to my comfort weight of 130-135. I don't have any magic advice. What worked for me was holding myself accountable. Also, when the first 20 pounds came falling off it really gave me motivation. Then it almost became a game of seeing how much I could lose. I read everything I could get my hands on about weight loss. One piece of advice ------ Don't try to change your lifestyle completely in the first week. Make a few changes every week. Otherwise you're going to feel deprived and like it's a "job". I can't imagine myself ever going back to what I used to look like. I might put a little on every now and again but I always get it back off. Chocolate cake simply isn't worth looking and feeling terrible. Good luck!!!

Reading your post....YOU CAN DO IT...ONLY..ONLY..ONLY.... dont think of the word DIET...lol Its an ugly four letter word in my vocabulary and I wont use that word anymore. I find that when I think of DIET..im already discouraged! I now say, I am going to make better choices..ones that I can live on for life. I love to eat and I love my chocolate and carbs..hahahha So, I have lost 90 lbs with this way of thinking..its very freeing. I find that using the low carb/ high protein plan works great because, protein builds muscle mass..which we need. I also find with this plan, that I cant seem to eat all the food I need to fullfill my daily quota...which is a miracle in itself. I eat every two hours..nibble throughout the day more or less. As I try getting the low carb bread and nonfat light yogurt and stringcheese. Throw away any past DIETS you have tried and start thinking of it as a new way of eating healthy. I dont cut out anything as far as goodies. I make sure I have at least one "forbidden" (which it is not really forbidden anymore) a day..like dark chocolate which is good for you or Ill have a small dish of ice cream or a handful of chips. If you take these out of your food groups, you will want them even more, so I allow myself to have them...of course track them on your fitclick plan. walking is the best exercise. I hate exercise with a passion..lol not that Im lazy.. i just dont enjoy it, but find that walking or even stick on a CD and dance for a half hour is fun. Anything type of movement is better than nothing. OH..and get a 28 oz water bottle and drink it throughout the day. I ususally drink about 2 bottles due to my kidney stones..but it is good for you anyway. SO....I hope this has encouraged you. I have 15 lbs to go but let me tell you...it is the hardest 15lbs Ive had to take off. I am 49..5'3" and started out at 235 and now am down to 140ish. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..dont get discouraged....just do your best to make healthier choices and the weight will come off....I promise. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! (I have struggles with weight issues my whole life..and this plan has worked the best for me and I can see myself doing this the rest of my life...eating normal) Eat what you enjoy and dont settle for less. Let me know how you are doing. SAY AFTER ME....NO MORE DIET WORDS IN MY VOCABULARY..JUST BETTER CHOICES....AND SAY IT EVERYDAY TO YOURSELF.

40 too
Yep... I'm 40....
Actually it was my 40th birthday that made me decide to fianlly get fit.

This site has really helped, because it made weight loss logical. Basically it's all about calories in... calories out (SIMPLE AS THAT).

Since starting last October, I have lost 50 lbs!!! I'm now at my goal weight, but continuing to eat well and excercise.

Track EVERYTHING using this tool really helped. I'm motivated to keep my calories between the recommended numbers, and the weight loss follows the math laid out on the site.

Don't get me wrong... In the beginning it is difficult to cut out the extra "empty calories" but the small sacrifices have paid off.

Good Luck on your journey.... There are many people here to support you!

"GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up.
"GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up..... I am 4 weeks and 5 days and that is a record for me too. I wish I would have found this plan a long time ago. I have wasted so much money on Weight watchers and have gotten no where. I would eat a sweet potato because it was high fiber and healthy but I'd want to eat and eat and eat due to the Carb addiction. I would eat a banana and have 4 or 5!!!! Now that I am off of carbs......... I don't have the cravings as bad anymore. When I do have a craving, I eat 1/4 Cup of Smackers’ Natural Crunchy Peanut butter with 6 or 8 stalks of celery and with all that fiber and CRUNCH, I am good for 4 hours!!! I also try to drink very much water!! For instance if you weigh 260, drink 130 of water, which is 16 8 ounce glasses."

You CAN do this!
Don't get discouraged but I have to tell you, after 40, it is defnitey harder. Dieting alone just won't do it. I am 49 and after dieting again, and again, and again, with little to no exercise I was at my higehst weight-235. I finally conceded, joined a gym and hired a trainer once a week. I go to the gym 6 - 7 days a week and have lost 60 pounds in 8 months and believe me, I have earned every damned ounce!
As to eating, low calorie-less than 1200 a day. That sounds low and I know a lot of people wuld nay-say that but the wieght was NOT moving (it was but like 2 pounds a month). I found ways to get a lot of nutritional bang for my buck if you will, and was not hungry because I ate good foods and lots of veggies, low/no fat diary, some low carb/low GI fruit and lots of low fat protein. Tracking everything you eat is a must and really helps as you see where you are eating well and not so well. You must record everything you eat.
That said, I have accepted that this MUST be a way of life if I want to keep it off for good. My back pain has disappeared, I feel amazing and I like how phsycially empowered I feel.
Do you need to do 6-7 days? Probably not but I think until it's truly more than a habit and becomes a priority in your life, that type of schedule is a good thing. For most people, 5 days is good to start and then when you reach your goal, you have to experiment and see how often you need to go to maintain.
You can absolutely do this so like I said, don't get discouraged, you'r eon your way. Just keep tweaking if something isn't working and if you mess up one day, it's only one day-start fresh and recommitted the next.

Sympathetic ear
I am getting closer to the four-o, but I have struggled from a little kid with my weight. There were only two times in my life that I considered myself skinny...after I finished high school...(did situps and pushups every day until I got the gut down but then put it back on in college)...and before I got married when we didn't have kids and could get to the gym right after work. That wedding date approaching was a good motivator and we helped one another. At that time I was also doing LA Weight Loss with my then fiancee. I did better on it then her losing about 75 lbs. Since getting married and having kids put on more than that. Last year, when I started on FitClick I was 275 and am hovering around 260 now without doing a whole lot of exercise other than a couple times a week. I am not a morning person, so tend to exercise late at night when the kids are asleep. I'm trying to boost the frequency of my workouts (which are running outdoors 2x/week and karate 2-3x/week). You just have to find something that will keep you interested in continuing. Gym classes and going through a circuit of machines by myself didn't cut it. It also helps if you have someone to go with, but due to the kids, my wife and I took turns going to the gym instead and quickly lost interest.

Tracking your food and workouts will help you see what works best for you. Just make sure you do something each day and you'll be on your way.

Good luck and message me if you need a sympathetic ear!

I feel your pain!
I am 39 about to be forty in July I have 60+ pounds to lose and I finally have had enough of the drama of me going from one nutty diet to the next.
I was actually for once getting it together for real, eating better exercising
and then I found myself pregnant with twins and it totally feel apart after that. So as I approach my 40th bday I want to celebrate I love the fact that I am seeing 40 but I want 40 and fab not 40 and fat! So just stay encouraged it is beyond hard losing at our age but it sure as heck is not impossible!!! WE CAN DO IT!!!!

Using FitClick
Using FitClick is easy---the only issue I have is that you cannot enter some things on my IPhon app which can be frustrating if you're trying to collect points.... It won't let you update status, weigh in, and a couple of other things... It is easy to document caloric intake and exercise
