5 Best Summer Workouts that will Keep You Cool
Exercising outdoors in the summer can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also be uncomfortable and even dangerous when temperatures really start to rise. You probably already know some basic safety tips when working out in warm weather such as staying hydrated and working out in the early morning or the evening, but you might not know that there are certain workouts that will help you stay cool during the summer. Here are just five to try out for yourself.

Yoga

Yes, there is a trend towards "hot" yoga that forces you to sweat while you're going through various poses, but yoga exercises can also keep you cool if you do them in the shade. The deep breathing that is required of a good yoga session can help control the prana or energy force in your body. This not only cools your body down, but it can help you relax. Just unroll your yoga mat in a shady area and go through your usual yoga routine if you want to try this yourself.

Go Swimming

This should probably go without saying, but swimming in a cool pool is a great way to beat the summer heat while getting a good workout. Swimming is one of the best forms of low-impact exercises out there, and the cool water will ensure that you won't get overheated as you swim laps or go through some water calisthenic exercises. You can contact one of the many swimming pool contractors San Antonio has to offer if you want to install a pool in your own home, but a gym with an indoor pool will also work if you're on a tight budget.

Run Through Sprinklers

If you like to go for a run on a hot day, look for some sprinklers on your usual route. If you can, try to run close to them or even through them for a quick splash of cooling water. You obviously need to be careful about going off your regular path just to hit some sprinklers on other people's property, but a sprinkler that is closer to a sidewalk is usually fair game.

An Easy Walk

If it's too hot to actually run or bike outdoors, you can always go for a relaxing walk instead. You won't have to worry about pushing yourself too hard and getting overheated, but you will still be getting some exercise. Be sure to wear light-colored clothing to reflect the sunlight away from you whether you decide to walk or run.

Don't Forget The Gym

There will be times when it is simply too hot to do any kind of outdoor workout safely. While this might ruin your plans for your daily workout, it doesn't have to if you have a gym membership. You might not be able to enjoy the outdoors like you would on most days, but you can still run on a treadmill or spend some time on a stationary bike. Gyms are around for this very reason, so take advantage of the air conditioned indoor environment to stay on top of your fitness goals. You can always head back outside another day.

The most important thing to remember whenever you workout in the summer is to stay safe. These exercises will definitely make things easier, but they're not a guarantee that you will be safe from dehydration or heat exhaustion. Pay attention to signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, nausea and cramping, and be mindful of your physical limits. An outdoor workout may be pleasant and rewarding, but not if you are risking your own health and safety.
