Curious and confused
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put such a thread but I'm going to post it anyway and wish for the best.
**TMI alert**
I am curious and confused as to why my stool smells like chemicals. It smells kind of like perm solution. I don't know if it's a change in diet or maybe something serious. So before I head off the the doctors and quite possibly make a fool of myself, I wanted to see if anyone has had this before. So has anyone had problems with their stools smelling......well, not like poop?
Thanks

Bowels
Poor diet alone can cause odor problems but other health issues can contribute. The odor may signal a lack of the healthy bacteria like acidophilus and bifidobacterium (also called probiotics) your gut needs to stay balanced and to assist in the digestion and assimilation of the foods you eat, or you may have an overgrowth of unhealthy yeast or bacteria such as Candida Albicans.

did some searching...
found this site...

quote...
You could be smelling acetone, which is a chemical formed in the blood when the body uses fat instead of glucose (sugar) for energy. If acetone forms, it usually means that the cells do not have enough insulin -- or cannot use the insulin that is in the blood -- to use glucose for energy. Acetone passes through the body into the urine. Another possibility could be ammonia.

Ammonia smelling stools can be attributed to bacteria overgrowth or nitrogen being insufficiently digested or improperly metabolized. When food is insufficiently digested, the non-absorbed food can then become food for harmful bacteria, or just putrefy, in the gut.
