HELP WITH LATE NIGHT HUNGER!!! NEED ADVICE
My body is on a really bad sleep schedule and I am trying to regulate it, but it is still very difficult. I lay awake at night till 2 or 3am sometimes trying to fall asleep. I have dinner at 6 or 7pm sometimes earlier, so by 3am ( 7-8hrs later) I am absolutly starving and the hunger pangs help keep me awake. I broke down last night and ate 1/4 cup of mixed nuts and then felt bad for it. I dont want to sabatoge all the hard work during the day with these late night breakdowns. Does anyone know of any appetite curbing tips that help for a situation like this? Tried hot tea but that didnt really do the trick, need some good advice!!!

snack 3 hours before bed
Try including a fiberous snack and a glass of water 3 hours before bedtime. I like to have six rectangular whole grain Old London Melba Toast crackers with a Sargento Vermont Sharp White Cheddar natural cheese stick for a total of 210 calories. (The enzymes remaining in natural cheese digest the lactose.) Calcium is a natural sleep aid. The fiber keeps the food in your stomach longer. And the water is held onto by the fiber. You could add Benefiber to the water to further enhance this effect.

My suggestion as a Pro Figure Athlete
I feel you pain. I too struggled with nights. You goal is to lose weight and do the yo yo dieting that will ultimately make you fatter. Your evening meal needs to be very low in carbs and be a complex carb it any carb at all. Work your larger meals with majority of carbs around you most active parts of the day. At night, or before bed eat at least a few hours before and limit the carbs way down! Keep the plate high in protein and low fat and low carb. If you eat a potato or crackers this will make your blood sugar elevate and drop. I believe you are experiencing the drop with this hung pang you mention. You really need to balance your meals correctly to maintiain glucose so you don't crash and store fat--

Suggestions
Thanks for the tips, it sounds like you know quite a bit about the balancing of food groups and the biological effects certain types have on the body at certain times of day. I am lookng to loose quite a lot of weight, I have lost 5 pounds so far in the last 2 weeks which is a pretty good start, but I could really use some advice on how to keep the momentum going, especially if I am looking at at least a year to reach my goal. Anything that you can think of that could be useful to me would be great, I am looking for all the support I can get, I really want this to be it for me, I have spent more than half my life yo you dieting and Im tired of it, plus I want to live a long healthy active life for not just me but my boys, they are a big motivation for me.

hunger pains
BReasonable is onto something here!

I hadn't read this post till now, which would've helped me from my late night hunger pains a lot earlier.

Last week, I found that with a glass of water, and a handful (or two) of mini-wheats, I was able to very comfortably curb my hunger pains, AND able to sleep.

The combination of fiber and water helps!
And, I'm sure the calcium will help (as BReasonable suggests) too.

try almond milk
I can't sleep when I am hungry. The first month of my diet, I was always hungry, especially at night. I bought some Silk Vanilla ALmond Milk for a recipe, I was trying... and OMG fell in love with the stuff. It is so creamy and yummy tasting. Just one cup fills your tummy kills the salt/sweet cravings and you can sleep feeling satisfied. I always have to chase it with a full glass of water or I wake up thirsty during the night. It is only 90 calories. For me, it is the only <100 calorie snack that satisfies my hunger.
