Help!
I'm having a lot of trouble staying motivated , I've been trying to lose weight for so long, all I do is gain weight. I've made a habit of coming home from work and just eating, even if I'm not hungry. I know this is bad for me because what I eat is junk food and if it's not in the house I get very irratible. I'm tired of the way I look but just can't break the habit of eating when I'm bored. I've tried to keep myself occupied but it doesn't work. Any advice?

Caitlin,
Having some of the same issues. Some of it is due to the long winter and cold. I swear my body is trying to beef up the fat to keep me warm. It is very cold where I work (we have space heaters) and I sit all day long. How about we help each other? What junk food do you like? Melanie

Targets?
Hi,
How about a target, or goal? Instead of thinking I need to lose weight, think of a goal you'd like to accomplish.
For example...
1) running a 5k
2) swimming 10 laps non stop
3) hiking/walking a particular trail/route in under an hour
4) taking dancing lessons, and how you want to look when dancing
5) walking up a particular hill in under a certain time. Or, being able to walk up briskly without being winded.
6) joining a recreational league
also, it helps tremendously to stay away from the comfy couch and tv, and being pre-occupied with something else. TV + comfy couch + food commercials = comfort eating

Motivation
It really helps me to listen to audible books on nutrition and how to live a new life by reducing food. I have two I can recommend, one is by Dr. Kessler on overeating and the other is The Beck Diet Solution. Dr. Kessler is a former FDA commissioner. He details how the food industry has engineered foods to be addictive etc. Judith Beck's book is on how to lose weight. I listen to them over and over, particularly when I have a hard time not eating.
Something to do with your hands will help too, like knitting or crocheting. I am on a hospital health program and I am not allowed to eat after dinner. Keeping track of your food helps too, especially if you share it with someone and you know someone else is looking at it. My nutritionist looks at mine.

I was in the same situation for a long long time and the more I gained weight the more I hated myself and the more I ate..
I just got up a one day and called everyone that I knew that was complaining about their weight. Big to not so big people ,some had to lose 200 pounds and some 5 pounds and asked them what they thought about starting a weight loss group. Since then every Monday we get together and weigh ourselves then we have 1 person that we chose the week before to talk about something they accomplished or tricks they know off..Also every week we put 5$ in a envelope that we keep and once we reach a certain goal we set ourselves we can take that money to buy something related to workouts or smaller clothes...
We also did a before picture and stuck in on a board..we will do a during picture in 6 months.. it keeps me motivated ..
Oh...and also I train doing Zumba , cause I love dancing and this keep me motivated , their is some videos of it on you tube if you want to try it out...

My advice
You need a clear goal because the phrase "I want to be thin" does not come from everyone, I was also helped by motivating works on au.paperell.com. The young scientists write special papers and researches about motivations for people with such problems. I wanted to have my mum's dress, so it was a great motivation.
