Help for after surgery
I am having umbilical hernia surgery next week (18 May). I am being told that I will not be able to exercise for 4-8 weeks. I can't wait that long to work out. After a year of exercise and loosing 230 pounds, I have figured out what works best for me. I do 2 hours of resistance training in the morning, 1 hour of cardio at night, and no exercising on Sunday.
I take a week off from exercise every 10-12 weeks, but not exercising with heavy weights for 4-8 weeks is much longer than I have every taken. Any suggestions of what I can do for exercise during this recovery period? Has any one gone through this surgery?

Re: Help after surgery
That is so sad!Try some really light exercise (yoga maybe) with your doctors permission.

Help after surgery
230lbs!!! wow congrats on that to begin with...I just started and that is a motivation on my way to 50...if you cant exercise maybe you can just walk. slowly it's still doing something while hopefully not going against your doc's advice.

Thanks
Thanks for the ideas. I think I am going to have figure it out after the surgery. I did some research and recovery times differ for everyone; as they should. I will start off with some light walking on the treadmill and stair stepper. Next, I will start running and try some light weights. Finally, I should be back into my regular workout hopefully sooner than later. I am hoping within 6 weeks.
