Home Gyms vs Membership Gyms
My kidds have all moved out now and yes I have a smile on my face. I want to turn my basement into a home gym. Need advice from people that had a membership and built a home gym was it a good or bad idea.

Workout At Home
I had a gym membership to Bally's and it went practically 3 years without use! Yet they religiously deducted their costs from my checking account. I ended up buying a stationary bike, a gazelle and a treadmill. To be honest, I rather workout at home. While the gym is fun if you have a friend (and maybe that was my mistake that I picked a gym NONE of my friends had a membership to) I find that I am more focused at home. I spoke to a dietician a while back and she told me that it is a known fact in the fitness industry that only 10% of the people that actually pay for a gym membership truly utilize their membership. I don't think you have to go equipment crazy like I did, but for me, I like working out in the privacy of my home because then it doesn't matter how silly and red faced I look! =)

Gyms
If you build it you won't nesessarily come.

I have a stationayy bike, a floor mat, and a few weights.

That works for me, I have to make sure I stay with it.

Training for 31 years no motivation needed
I love to train. I workout 6 days a week on weights and cardio. I will use it for sure. I"m going to buy a bench press, universal, leg press-hack squat, preacher curl, bench for dumbbells that inclines and declines ,1000 lbs of weight and 10 to 100 lbs of dumbells. I have a bike for cardio and will get a treadmill.
