Ketogenic Diet
I have never believed in "fad diets". I tried to eat sensibly, track calories and move. Still weight was creeping on since I turned 40. Nothing seemed to work. When I did try to reduce carbs and only incorporate good fats into my diet after reading South Beach Diet at one point, I was slightly successful but it was hard for me to fully stick to it for long. I found myself "cheating" more and more. When I reached 210 and my young son started asking me to loose weight, I decided to try something drastic. I have been on the "keto" diet for about 4 weeks and it seems to be working (10 lbs down). I find it is easier to get all my limited carbs from vegetables that grow above ground. The high fat seems to keep me from overeating, I find I have to remind myself to eat more often these days and almost never have to tell myself that I can't eat anymore. At times my only problem is getting enough fat at a meal to balance my protein intake.

I don't find that my ability to exercise is any different now than before going on this diet. I have incorporated vitamin and mineral supplements. I also take a fiber powder daily as I find it hard to get enough fiber unless I eat celery all day long.

I don't think this is for everyone. It is drastic. It may not be the healthiest diet to stick to for life. You can't do it if you are diabetic. You do need to be good about tracking your fat/protein/carb intake. You can't cheat (or you go out of ketosis). I do wish I could eat fruit and sweet potatoes. I just hope to get down to at least 150 and then find a sensible eating plan to keep the weight off.
