My net calories are always negative...am I supposed to eat more??
I just started dieting a couple of weeks ago...I currently weigh 170 and I am 5'5"...I am eating 1200-1300 calories a day...I do spin/interval training two days a week..spin class one day a week...and Zumba 2-3 days a week and a brisk walk when I don't go to the gym... The net calorie count is throwing me off...Am I supposed to eat more calories than I already am??

Hi kitterbug,

If you want to lose weight your net calories need to be negative. In other words you need to burn more than you eat (within reason). If you want to gain weight your net calories need to be positive. In others words, you need to eat more than you burn. If you want to stay the same, your net calories should be within 50 calories (either positive or negative).

If you're burning more than 1000 calories net, you might want to eat more. Burning 1000 calories more than you eat on a daily basis will give you approximately a 2 pound per week weight loss, which is balanced and safe. If you want to lose at least a pound a week, you need your daily net calorie balance to show negative 500 or more.
