Right there with ya'!
Hey alisaj. I was in my 20s when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have been blaming everything on my stressful job. Now I'm 38 and I still haven't done anything about it. I'm tired of being on meds and I think at least one of them was making me feel worse. I really want to do this. I know I need help, but time and resources are limited, so I joined FitClick...for the 2nd time. But, I'm really ready now. I've read that the best thing to start with is walking. So, I'm gonna start with that and maybe do 10-15 minutes on the total gym 2-3 times a week. We'll see how it goes.

low glycemic pasta by Dreamfield's
According to what's written on its box, Dreamfield's pasta has only 5g of digestible carbs per serving. If you like pasta, it could help. (It's easier to find all their varieties online than it is to find them in any one store.)

perhaps helpful advice
My moms been a type 2 diabetic since she was 12, 30 years later shes managed never to have to take insulin, all through diet and excersise.
Most of her meals are leafy greens and a small amount of protien.
But she trys to make it fun, like shrimp cooked with just water and a bit of curry powder on spinage greens. a single scrambled egg (with cayanne pepper for some flavor) single piece of toast. Salmon cooked with a small amount of butter and lemon with wild rice.
Biggest thing she looks for in a meal is fiber content. because high fiber are something her body can process without causing a blood sugar spike.
She also does a daily 30-45 mintue walk after dinner to help keep her blood sugars down.
I've recently started try to loose weight i started the journey at 190 as a boarderline diabetic. i'm down to 181 in 3 weeks following her example. I dont have 100 to loose just 60 but maybe something similar will work for you too.

forgot to add
I also forget to mention she follows the canadian food guide for portions as well with her meals. So proper portions and fiber content, if what she looks for.

Fish
Vary your protein intake with fish. . .very low in calories and high in protein. Fish can be baked, broiled, fried, cooked in the microwave, sauced, plain, and gussied up intensely.

Experiment with the white fishes. . .they are the leanest

Salmon has higher calories but has lots of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Enjoy! :)

Eggs
I forgot to mention eggs for protein. . .very high calories in the yolks. Use an egg substitute such as Egg Beaters or Egg Creations to make scrambled eggs or in recipes. (1/4 cup equals 1 egg). They have practically NO calories and taste wonderful.

Another thing you can use is egg whites which also come pre-packaged and by using the pre-packaged ones you don't have to feel guilty for throwing out the yolks.

Most of the flavour of eggs is in the whites.
