Over 50 and 50 Pounds To Lose
At 55 yrs. dieting is harder than ever, and exercise is more of a struggle. Kept weight off for many years by being a gym rat, then circumstances changed and I gained almost 60 lbs. Keep allowing myself to get off track and am struggling with motivation. Help!

Motivation
remember that you didn't gain 50lbs overnight, so don't put yourself in the mindset that you will lose 50lbs overnight. your outlook on losing weight is everything. if you're upset about your weight-gain, channel that as motivation to make a change.
i lost 50lbs in a 10-month span about two years ago, and it really wasn't as hard as you'd think. i cut a few unnecessary fatty things (chocolate, candies, soda, cheese) from my diet with an occasional "cheat day" once every couple weeks. replacing the majority of simple carbs (mainly white bread and pasta) with complex carbs (mostly whole wheat breads and whole wheat pastas) also helped a lot. i broke the old habit of having only two large meals a day to having four-five smaller meals with veggies or fruits as snacks. the main thing is to find out what healthier options are out there for you, and to find out which ones you actually enjoy eating.
this is one of those cases where slow-and-steady WILL win the race. don't lose hope.

I Understand completely
at 5'2" i am 193 and in my first week last week i lost a total of 5lbs just eating healthy and exercising using tae bo. I had a gym member ship for almost 2 years and yes this has been my heaviest. I gained 40lbs during this time becuase I had this silly idea in the back of my mind that oh well i can eat what ever because I walked on the treadmill for 40 mins this morning. news flash! I gained and gained and agained. Finally go fed up quit the gym and starting doing my own thing at home in my basement. Billy blanks is amazing and I feel more energized than evr before. Tae Bo Rocks! I finally relized that it will take me a while to loose what I put on but I am having fun discovering new healthy eating habits weekly. The internet is great for that.

It is a struggle
I am finding it particularly difficult during the winter months. I don't feel like walking or going to the gym! I'm back to my old habit of munching on food all night. I know what I need to do to get back on the program, but I just can't seem to kick start myself.

Starting to diet
I just today, found this site and I think that the calorie calculator will be invaluable. Today, using the calculator, is the first day I've been able to diet past 10AM. Here it is already 3:55PM and I have most of my alotted calories available to me for the evening meal.
I quit smoking 14 months ago and gained 30 pounds on top of the previous 95 pounds I had gained over the years. So -- I have 125 to lose. I wish us all great good luck.

Need Help
I have 145 pounds to loose and right now I don't know where to start, so I haven't. I want to start now, not tomorrow or next week or next payday, but NOW, using what I have in the house to it. I have IBS and Barrets Esophagus so I can't eat fresh fruits or veggis plus I'm loctose intolerant. None of the suggested diets seem to address any of my problems, so I'm thinking I'll just court calories. I will need help staying with it too and I'm NOT an exerciser. Do I have a chance at this???

I have some good advice.
My friend Holly has IBS and I told her I know that everything seems to go right through her but she should get started on a multi-vitamin not a normal one but the one in a capsule because multi-vitamins that are just in solid form don't get absorbed fast enough for there benefits if you are suffering from IBS. Ever since she has started that, she has lost 40 pounds and keep it off. Hope this helps.
