PGX Daily
Has anyone tried PGX Daily? I just started last night. It's a supplement that contains plant fiber (no chemicals or stimulants). You take it before meals, starting with 2 softgels and increasing as needed. It is supposed to absorb water and become viscous, making you feel full faster and making the food you eat digest slower. It's supposed to help avoid blood sugar spikes, keeping your level even thru the day. You do have to drink lots of water (which I need motivation to do anyway). I have high hopes that my new diet will work better because I won't be hungry all the time. That's the goal.

PGX and Fiber in general
In general that's how fiber is supposed to work. It fills up your stomach, absorbs water, slows digestion (which evens out your blood sugar), and so forth. I add fiber to my morning cereal and find that it really helps keep me on track through the day. So if PGX is fiber, it probably would work. Of course, you can probably buy big bags of oat fiber, wheat bran, and coconut flour (the fibrous part of the coconut) for a lot less money than the supplement.

PGX
Hi Carolyn,

I see you have some suggestions as far as fiber is concerned I was wondering would you suggest some brand names that really work well or a guide as to how to shop for fiber. I need to increase fiber in my diet and truly have no idea as to how..

Types and Brands of Fiber
Sure. First, here's a blog article on the effect of eating a high fiber breakfast on weight control: http://www.obesitypanacea.com/2009/04/breakfast-of-champions.html

I read it and looked up the study it mentioned and discovered that the fiber in the study was insoluble, which generally means wheat bran. That was the first thing I added to my cereal. You can find wheat bran in the grocery store (usually in the health food aisle). The brand most grocery stores carry is Bob's Red Mill Wheat Bran. If I were you, that's where I'd start. It's not very expensive as something to try out and it is pretty close to what is typically used in studies that show the good effect of fiber.

Soluble fiber is also fairly important since it absorbs water and helps lower cholesterol. Oatmeal is high in soluble fiber. I buy oat fiber from Honeyville Grain because it is very low in calories for the amount of fiber it offers. (5 calories for 26 grams of fiber) But Honeyville Grain sells in bulk and that might be too much for you if you're just starting with fiber. Here is the link: http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/oatfiber4lb.aspx

The other way to get more fiber is to increase the amount of raw fruit and vegetables in your diet. (This is probably the healthiest way to get your fiber.)

One piece of advice, use Fitclick to track how much fiber you get normally, then increase it by only a small amount each day. Large increases in fiber are associated with painful stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Liking PGX Daily
I've been taking PGX Daily for 1 1/2 weeks now and have really noticed a difference. I get full fast and don't have starvation attacks between meals. I haven't really had trouble with bloating or gas. I'm very encouraged so far!
