Totally Green At This
Ok, I will be 57 next month and I have controlled high blood pressure and have been diagnosed with diabetes now. I have been totally complacent about exercise all my life and am new at this. My daughter and I have now joined a fitness center which has many machines to work out on. Thing is that we are both so green at this we have no idea what we should be doing. The place doesn't have any sort of person there to coach or help. We are on our own. I really don't know what I am expecting here other than just telling my story and making an introduction.

research libraries/bookstores & check with your physicians
There are helpful guidebooks written by experts about how to do most any exercise correctly so that you don't harm yourself.
You should probably check with your physicians so they can help you set gradual cardiovascular goals for yourself that don't put you at risk.

Totally Green
Green, I have belonged to several gyms and spas and have found the YMCA to beat all of them--hands down. I particularly like the classes there. There is a series called Silver Sneakers that is just wonderful for the slightly older crowd. some aerobic, some strength, some range of motion, some balance, swimming & zumba! Your own pace is perfect. The environment at the Y is friendly and helpful so you would be well informed before you ever touched a machine. They even have coffee and popcorn for us and a place to chat after a workout. It's great. I go 3-5 times a week, have many friends there, and strongly recommend it. Good luck.
