What kind of diet should I pick to build muscle and definition.
I am not over weight just out of shape. Have always been blessed with an athletic body. My body fat has definitely increased over the last 20 years. I want to build strength, muscle and sharp definition. What kind of diet should I use or choose to accomplish my goal of gaining 10-15lbs of muscle mass and getting defined?

watch protein level
simple way to get started would be to track your existing diet to see where you are now (which sounds like a maintenance level). if the levels seem healthy and normal, start on a weight-training plan that builds strength and endurance. you'll start to feel hungry, so add calories that are more protein-oriented (this is not always easy -- as you increase activity people often just eat more, so they get their weight gain, but it's not always from muscle mass)

give yourself some time and be patient -- that much lean muscle mass is hard to come by.

Start seeing results sooner...
Add a Protein Gainer to your daily diet. Its best taken within the first 15 minutes after a workout. My boyfriend takes 50g of a gainer protein everyday after the gym to maintain muscle mass and definition.

worth the $40.

Recent studies find...

Protein is very important but so are CARBS and FIBER. TOO much protein harms kidneys, too many carbs can end up being stored as fat, not enough of both together impede transport of nutrients from both to the muscle cells which aid muscle growth.

Bottom line? Don't think protein alone for muscle building, is the ONLY source of the gold.

A good balance of carbs and protein.
