"What the Hell!"
Tell me if this sounds familiar: I'm walking though the grocery store, which is a minefield of the unhealthy by the way, and I see a bag of potato chips on an end cap (I know better than to go down the chip aisle). My mind says to itself "What the Hell" and I buy it and am so excited that I rip into it as soon as I'm home and consume half the bag. Then I feel guilty and throw the rest away in the outside trash so no one would know I cheated on my diet. Every diet I've started has ended with a string of these incidents and every year since 35 I go up in weight by about ten pounds. At this rate I'll be 300 lbs in four years! What do you do to avoid this issue?

Exercise O_o
Here's another topic I need help with. I have a very active job. I work at an airport so I'm either lifting weights (baggage) or pushing and pulling passenger loading ramps into place. I can work in a physically demanding environment for hours and feel fine - well sore, but fine. When ever I start an exercise program, professionally guided or in a class, I almost always end up injuring myself. This is discouraging. I know I need to exercise outside of my job to actually lose weight. I weigh a little more now than when I started. What did you all do to get started with exercise? What keeps you motivated? Anything you do with kids?

Buy 100 calorie snacks or when you do give in an buy say a bag of chips or a candy bar, only eat half of it. Split it up right away. Then put it up an save it for another day. Start out exercising slowly. How about walking at a comfortable pace for a week. Then increase it. Try videos. You can go at your own pace. Good luck!

Good Advice
Thanks for the feedback. I'm doing well - like I always do when starting out- I'm down 6 lbs now but need to kick my habit of self sabotage! I never tried the 100 calorie packs. Maybe I'll try the Cheese it variety. They are my nemesis!

my very first steps on my journey were... 1. logging EVERY bite of food I put into my mouth (good, bad AND ugly) 2. simple exercise goals 3 times per week (NO excuses). I added steps as I continued. Logging food is the first step to learning about nutrition and being accountable for actions. It seems simple but it works ;)

Cheat the diet sometimes but dont cheat the tracking!
Use the site to track everything. Dont cheat. if you cheat on your diet, dont cheat on the tracking. its ok...we all do it. I don't feel like I'm on a diet because i still eat some junk food....pretty much every day. I do track it though.
In order to track it you have to know how much you ate. that means measuring! Don't just sit down with the bag of chips....Measure out a 1oz serving...or 1.5 oz serving....then track it....and put them away for tomorrow.
You can do it! trust me!

Putting you first, you want to be there for others. Start slow with a plan so you don't get burned out! Follow me if you like, been at this for a while and remember the journey never ends, just goes down a different road.

If you look at it like a way of life, it's not cheating.
It's part of life. There is no black and white with lifestyle change, it's something that you accept, and make work for you. It's not on a diet or off a diet, it is adjusting portions, dealing with food in a way that isn't making it a friend nor an enemy just part of existence.
Hope you find some peace with it all. It's not easy, but nothing well worth it ever is...

Fixing our mental outlook has to come first. No amount of wishing to make healthy changes will work in the long term if we don't do some work on the inner child and get to the root of the issues.
