lowing cholesterol
I just found out that i have high cholestrol that i may have gotten from my mom or dad.I don't smoke or drink. Never did. I have been getting regular checkups with good results. Just this last check which was in August is when i found out. From that point they put me on crestor and i went back 2 days ago for followup and got a message that it is still hill. I havent't eaten much since i found out and have lost 4 pounds.I would like to put 25 to 30pounds back on my frame.I am at 147 right now Any advise will be greatly appreciated. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. Wasn't given a diet so that's why i haven't been eaten

Plant based diet

have you ever considered lowering the amount of meat you eat, or perhaps switching to a plant based diet? I just did this myself about 4 months ago for the same reasons. My cholesterol is only a little high so far, but it's a genetic issue and I need to be very careful.
It can be tough to make meals that are interesting. I seem to eat a lot of things in bowls, but if you're interesting, you can check out this website for some help. engine2diet.com The fact that he's a firefighter (like me) and his parents and grandparents are surgeons and researchers (he's the black sheep I guess) caught my attention.
It's worth a look. There are other foods that can naturally help lower cholesterol as well, such as, blueberries, avocados, salmon, and even a tsp of cinnamon each day.
I hope you find what works, perhaps another visit to your doc. It always bothers me when a doc tells you what the problem is, but doesn't tell you how you can fix it with the exception of drugs. Good luck! :)

there are a lot of lies and misconceptions floating around when it comes to cholesterol. the fact is the body needs it that is why it produces it. also when you do strenuous exercise the body produces more of it. modern medicine has lowered the standard to an impossible level. skip the drugs, those can do more harm than good. they block the body from producing cholesterol which means you have to eat more. if your that worried about it have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and a glass of wine with dinner.

Lower saturated fat
Hi, Smitty-
I think the most important thing for lowering LDL cholesterol is to reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet. Try to keep saturated fat less than 22 grams per day or if you want to be more aggressive then make it less than 14 grams per day. You can put that in as a target on whatever FitClick diet you are following.
I made some sample one-day diets you can search for under "Curves Phase 3" if you like. I think the FitClick healthy lifestyle diet is pretty good too. You can add a few meats to it, especially fish, but just keep a strict limit on that saturated fat.
Good luck!
Julie W.

Suggestions for lowering cholestero
A lot of what I have seen here is very true. Lower your "red" meat consumption. Try to only do "red" meat 2 times a week. Try to limit butter, and anything with cream. My husband recently had this discussion with his doctor and we realized he was pigging out on cream.. whip cream in the coffee, ice cream, and cream sauces (he is still thin but things are catching up with him.

But please know that the doctor has told me that changing your diet will only decrease your cholesterol by about 10%.

Since you don't smoke that is great that seems to be a huge contributor to high cholesterol. I would suggest exercise. My husband has gotten his cholesterol under 200 with medication and a lot of walks.

Ohhh and eat fish... Tuna, Salmon, the ones that are high in the Omega 3 fatty acids.

Hope this helps!
Michele
