Adjust oven rack to upper-middle position, and heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Place butter in a 9-inch round pan and place in oven to allow butter to melt. Remove pan from oven when butter has fully melted.

Whisk flour, 3/4 cup of sugar, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Add milk, whisking to form a smooth batter. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar.

Bake until batter browns and fruit bubbles for 50 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
