Winter is coming

We saw our first few snowflakes yesterday ... letting us know that winter is not too far away .. time to think of some ways to stay warm without piling on the calories.

As I started this journey during the summer, this will be a challenge for me. I will have to find some recipes for lo-cal but hearty soups and stews, and drink hot tea when I am cold.  Maybe rev up the weight training.

Winter can be a challenge for a "hibernator" like me, who likes to ea

Fruits and veggies tasting REALLY good

I'm finding that raw fruits and veggies are starting to taste really sweet to me now, almost like candy !   Wow, I never thought I would prefer a piece of fruit to a piece of candy; or that I would love raw baby carrots so much.  This is a really good thing.

It IS summer, so that may have something to do with it.  I wonder if I will feel the same way in the dead cold of winter.

I'm thinking that my BMR may be set too high (though I have it set as "sedentary", as despite my intake and exercise, I am not losing anywhere near the rate it says I should.  Hmmm.

In it for the long haul

I have done this journey before.... eating right, losing weight slowly and carefully.. sometimes getting to my goal weight, sometimes not.  Then I have watched it creep back up beyond where I said I would never let it go again.  The question is, how did this happen?  I need to figure that out while I am on this journey, so that I will never let it happen again.  I've

Exercise and hunger

 Unrated
Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 9:04 PM filed under General postings

I am discovering that on the days that I work out more, I tend not to feel as hungry in the middle of the afternoon.   I've always thought that exercise would make me hungrier.  I seem to need a light lunch after morning exercise class.  Then take a brisk walk after lunch and a small snack

Food Dreams

I had a food dream last night.  I was trying to make a homemade pizza and homemade sweet rolls.  Both required putting the dough in the oven to rise.  I had trouble finding a place big enough on the counters to knead the dough, and then I left the dough in the oven overnight...It didn't seem to affect the taste.  I remember thinki

Loneliness and hunger

An interesting thing... the past two nights I have had a great urge to snack.  I've felt an appetite or hunger for things like chips.. etc.  I haven't given in to it, but I've noticed that hubby has been gone for activities each evening.  Tonight he is at a baseball game with our son-in-law and may be quite late getting home.  I'm wondering if for me there is a connection between hunger and loneliness.

Keep on plugging

Two weeks have gone by.  I've been weighing in once/week.  I think if I did it every day it would just frustrate me.  I've dropped a total of 5 lbs., which is great.  I know it will slow down as time goes by, but I felt that was really good for a start.  What I will have to do is just "keep on plugging".  And once I get there, I need to maintain. .... the biggest challenge of all, because in the past I've not been able to do that.

Sunday afternoon workout

Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 7:07 PM filed under Exercise & Fitness postings

This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Because I am missing aqua-aerobics tomorrow because of a funeral to go to, I decided to get to the Y today and do my own workout.  I know the routines pretty well, and I think I did a really good job.  So I'm giving myself a pat on the back.  The class is normally 45 minutes, and sometimes I do back-to-back classes; today I did an hour, including stretches at the end.  I will get b

I'm drinking lots of water today.  It is very hot and I've been helping a friend move stuff from her house to a townhome they just bought.   They have until the end of the month to get everything out, but she is doing a little at a time.  She can do this, because the homes are about 10 miles apart.

I tried eating a few small pretzels today for a snack to help replenish the salt from perspiring.

This is still my first week on fitclick... I still
