Reality Check Clears

!!! 32% fat !!!  I am SO glad I went and got that test done!

I've been grumpy about gaining back 10 pounds since last summer, but all the Curves ladies were assuring me I look great.  Since I'm short, broad shouldered, and barrel chested, height-weight charts don't work for me.  So I finally went and got a caliper test done at my husband's fancy gym.  They told me I have a lean body mass of 108#, so now I can calculate a goal weight for myself.&nbs...

Happy New Year!

Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 3:10 PM filed under Weight Loss postings
The 20 pounds I lost in 2010 made a HUGE difference in my health and how people react to me.  I am hoping to lose another 20 pounds before my trip to Mexico in March, where I'll be climbing ancient ruins in the jungle.  I'm looking forward to shopping for climate-appropriate clothes in the "normal people" department!

Spreading the good news

I just got back from 2 weeks with my mom and youngest sister (other family came and went as well).  Both of them are suffering from the health troubles of obesity, and told me that they want to lose weight this year.  My mom has done it several times, so I just encourage her.  My sister has never dieted, and asked how I'd done it.  I shared with her the 3-phase plan and why it works.  I'm going to send her one of the Curves books (I have 3 copies), annotated for FitClick...

Trying on Maintenance Styles

 Unrated
Friday, November 5, 2010 at 9:33 AM filed under Diet & Nutrition postings
I worked hard up to Election Day, and now I'm recooperating.  I found a good maintenance pattern for me: Phase 2 at home for all but one meal a day, and that one meal is reasonable portions of whatever's available.  That lets me eat at catered events or restaurants once a day, without falling off the wagon.

Those "whatever" meals have hidden fats, so FitClick can't predict my weight like when I've got it all properly recorded.  But it sure beats my ...

OMG it works!

Now that I have my measurements in, my workouts tracked, and my foods all recorded, Fitclick shows me why I plateaued all summer.  My "sedentary" calorie requirement is LESS than 1500 calories!!!  Aha!  No wonder adding a bicycle outing every other day broke the plateau; it drove my calorie needs well over 1500.  Happy happy day!  It's not a mystery anymore; I can tell FitClick everything and it will tell me what to expect.  1500 is only "dieting"...

Sleep vs off-plan eating

 Unrated
Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 10:42 AM filed under Diet & Nutrition postings
At 185 pounds, I could only lie down if I'd not had any calories for 4 hours.  Even then, I had to lie on my side, with my CPAP mask on just right, or I'd start coughing and not be able to stop until I got up and drank a cup of water.  I ate from 7 AM to 7 PM and was in bed from 11 PM to 7 AM.  I was hungry from 9 to 11 PM, but it was necessary in order to sleep at all.

When I was declined for health insurance, my insurance agent suggested it was because of wei...

"Curves Circuit" workout worked out

 Unrated
Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 6:10 PM filed under General postings
I spent an hour working out how to work the Workout Tracker.  I'd picked somebody's workout who said they'd entered in all the Curves stuff, but it wasn't doing anything.  I finally found the "submit" button (doh!), and everything suddenly made sense.  I added a 5 minute brisk walk for my hulahoop warmup and a 15 minute recovery jog for my rest-mat dancing, and saved it as Curves Circuit.  Feel free to adopt it!

I used Copy Day to eve...

Phase 3 Freedom w/Tracking

 Unrated
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 3:10 PM filed under Diet & Nutrition postings
I figured out how to do Phase 3 here; it took me most of yesterday afternoon!

If you choose a diet plan, you are given meal plans and nutrient goals, with very small target ranges.  That's fine for Phase 1 and 2, but NOT for Phase 3.  So I turned off the diet plans.  Here's how:  From the Diet Tracker screen, click "switch" next to the name of your diet plan; choose Track Only.

However, my nutrient goals didn't chang...

Life Throws Us Curves

 Unrated
Monday, August 23, 2010 at 2:38 PM filed under Diet & Nutrition postings
I haven't been back on the Curves site for 2 weeks.  I was in Phase 3 and sulking.  I'm pulling up my socks now, and getting started here.  I'm ignoring what this site tells me I may or may not have eaten before yesterday.  I'm here now, and only looking forward.

I just now pulled up the Curves site so I could copy stuff from Favorite Meals into My Recipes here. I'm adding foods as needed:  peppercorns and cloves, so far.
