Could I be a runner?

It seems to be coming at me from all directions lately. Everyone is talking about it. And for years, all I did was listen, nod and try to act interested, but secretly thinking they were all crazy.

But now, nearly 35 lbs lighter and with more interest in fitness, I am left to wonder: "Could I be a runner?" Let's be realistic here - this is me we're talking about. Until a year ago, I'd sooner let a bus go by than run 10 seconds to catch it. However, as a result of the changes I've made since January, I have become fitter and more interested in finding the right sport for me. I want to be an active person beyond the confines of the gym. I want to be out there and doing 'real things', and meet like-minded people. Don't get me wrong, FitClick is great (who am I kidding, for me it's been the key to my success), but facetime is also important. So I've been pondering which sport would work for me.

Due to a number of factors, I am seriously considering jogging/running. At this time, I am able to sustain over an hour of quick paced walking/slow jogging on the treadmill. It feels like the right time to take that activity to the next level. Running seems like it might be a good choice because:

  1. As a primarily solitary activity, I can fit it into my hectic schedule (those who know me are aware that this is not easily accomplished) when I have time.
  2. It is a great way to increase my physical fitness.
  3. As I become better, I can join other people - either in a running club or participating in event runs (5k, 10k, and the like) and build a wider circle of friends who share this interest.
  4. My sister is an avid runner and has been supportive of my interest.
So, armed with a book on running for beginners and a few interesting magazines on the topic, I think the time is right to give running a try. Over the course of the weekend, I will develop a plan with a few goals and a timeline. I'm looking forward to this! I am excited to take on a new challenge and to see how well I can do.

If anyone has any advice to share on any topic relating to running, please send me a message. I can use all the help I can get.

Wish me luck!!!
