Everyone has a different daily schedule. CEOs have meetings, projects, and phone calls. Stay at-home moms have practices, school plays, and shopping. The scenarios are endless, but there is something we ALL have: 24 hours in each day. How we choose to spend it determines what we accomplish, the amount of energy at the end of each day, even our outlook on life. If you find yourself wondering why someone else seems to get more done than you, take a look at some tips that may help you better understand.

Tips and Tricks

Wake up earlier-

Get up 30 minutes earlier, and that gives you 3.5 extra hours a week. Email your staff, get in a quick workout before the kids wake up, or even use this time to prioritize your day before it begins.

Write it down-

If you have a big deadline or a goal coming up, write it down where you see it quickly: on the bathroom window or the refrigerator door. Put a post-it note on your steering wheel or front door to remind you to stay focused.

Do NOT multitask-

It is always better to complete 1 task and move forward. This will eliminate unfinished business tickling the back of your brain while trying to work on something else. Start a job, finish it, and put it out of your mind for good.

Drink water. Eat Brain Foods-

Drinking water can help stimulate your body and keep you focused on the task at hand. Drink a glass when you wake up, before a meal, and before bed. Healthy foods can also have a positive impact on getting through a productive day. Always on the run and feel like you never have time to sit for a meal? Check out a Le-vel thrive review or two and see if the packages pique your interest. If you add it to your new early wake-up call, you will stay right on track with your day!

Take a break-

Sometimes, you need to step away for a few minutes. Shut down your PC, leave the cell phone at your desk and go for a walk, listen to some tunes, or get in a quick workout to refresh your brain cells. Be sure not to walk into a gossip group or drama fest in the breakroom though; you don’t need a harmful distraction, you need relaxation.

What Others Do that Maybe You Don’t

The best advice I ever read was to “eat the frog.” In the world of business, there is always a list of tasks to be completed. Eating the frog means taking the responsibility you least look forward to doing and knocking it out first thing. After that, the rest of your day gets more manageable, and your productivity levels go up.

Another idea that not everyone thinks about is having back-up plans. If your work schedule is full of meetings, emails to send, or calls to make and something gets canceled last minute, you might wonder how to stay on track. Be prepared to conquer small, quick tasks in its place at a moment's notice.

Pre-planning the night before is an excellent method of organizing your time. If you know what needs to be done, take a few minutes before bed each night to create a task list and time table how much time you will give each task. Mark them from most important to least, and if something doesn’t get done, it can be the first on your list the following day.

Is This the Best Use of My Time?

You want to do everything, right? If you pass something up or give it to someone else, you might think it makes you look inefficient. Consider this; you agree to take on four projects at work, drop your child off at practice, make supper for the family, AND pick up the dry-cleaning. At work, if you can’t complete all four projects in the timeframe required, doesn’t that make you look worse than had you completed two ahead of schedule? If you missed the dry-cleaning pick-up and had to find something else to wear the following morning, wouldn’t that throw off the rest of your day?

Don’t be afraid to ask yourself if you need to do this task. Maybe you do, but does it need to be done 1) by you or can you delegate, or 2) right now or can it be added to your to-do later list?

Whatever you choose to add to your day, remember, we all have 24 hours in each day. That is 1,440 minutes you get to decide how to spend. Get up early, prep the night before, then eat that frog. Then it is smooth sailing from there. Even if that meeting is canceled as you walk through the door, you now have time to jump right into the next task on your list!
