Im not a doctor but this happens to me a lot in my feet and legs. Just when I'm low on potassium. I drink at least 140ozs of water every day and on the days I go to the bathroom way more are the days I get cramps. My doctor told me it from low potassium. So I have mine checked every month. Just a thought anyways.

Bananas are a good source of potassium
I eat a banana after a run of heavy leg workout to prevent cramping. It works for me. Good luck!

cramps
More likely due to the lack of muscle glycogen. When muscles are fatigued and not having the glycogen causes cramps.
Muscle glycogen recovery is the process through which the muscles of the body are replenished with carbohydrate sources that have been depleted through the energy expended in exercise. The muscles that are the target of this recovery to an optimal glycogen level are the skeletal muscles, those structures that are actually engaged in the movement of the body; the other muscle groups, the smooth muscles of the internal organs and the cardiac muscles do not possess a capacity for glycogen storage or conversion to fuel in the muscle.
Glucose that is initially stored as glycogen and then converted for use. Ideal muscle glycogen recovery will be performed through a series of small meals, as opposed to a single large meal that the body will not able to digest and process as readily.

Use TO Get
Use to get bad cramping in my calves and down sides of lower legs. Since I've been eating before and after exercise I do not get them anymore, so small meals work.

Thanks for all the information. I already eat small meals. Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, evening snack. I space the meals and snacks out. About 3 hours apart. I'll start eating bananas in my diet.
