My experience transitioning from Software QA to Software Developer
I wanted to share my experience of how I transitioned from a Software QA analyst to a Software Developer - especially without a Computer Science degree. You might be wondering though, do you need a Computer Science degree? (or an equivalent, such as Software Engineering, etc.). The answer is - no!
This doesn’t mean that becoming a developer without an engineering degree is easy. Quite the contrary. The most straightforward way to break into this career will always be with a Computer Science degree. Employers across the world will value these degrees. Computer Science programs will teach core fundamentals for software development such as exposure to various programming languages, database concepts, software architecture, assembly language, and mathematics that lend themselves to programming algorithms. This is why an employer will feel at ease hiring a candidate with a Computer Science degree.
The good news is, you don’t necessarily need that degree and there are a couple of paths that can lead you into landing your own Software Developer gig.
