H4 and H7 lamps

For an ordinary car enthusiast, the H4 and H7 lamps have quite pronounced differences from each other - different sizes of the base and the number of terminals. This difference in lamps makes them not interchangeable. But while both of these types of halogen car bulbs are designed for use in headlamps, they have structural differences.

The fact is that h4 bulbs, which appeared earlier, are produced for the so-called single focus headlights. They have different filaments for high and low beam. The low beam spiral located further from the base is equipped with a screen. This screen, when switched to low beam, deflects part of the radiation from the spiral, limiting the light flux from above.

It is this design of the light bulb that protects the drivers of oncoming vehicles from dazzle. The fact that the low-beam filament has a lower power does not really matter - focusing and shaping the light beam is much more important. Correctly orient the relative position of the spiral dipped beam and reflector allow "antennae" on the base of the lamp.

By the way, in H4 bi-xenon lamps, when switching the light from far to near and vice versa, the power of the luminous flux does not change - there is only a change in focus, carried out by moving either the arc or a special "shutter".

H7 lamps have one spiral and are installed in two pieces per headlight (or in combination with other single-filament "halogens"). The headlights in which they are used, in fact, contain two separate lighting devices - separately for high and low beam, enclosed in a single housing. This design presupposes a more precise adjustment of the headlight - in each mode, the use of separate lamps in combination with "own" reflectors or lenses allows to achieve the most effective illumination of the road.

Despite the fact that the designations "H4" and "H7" were originally intended to denote halogen lamps (from Halogen), they are used to mark xenon and LED light sources, which are manufactured in accordance with uniform international standards, which makes "like" bulbs interchangeable ...
