Today, I started with a brisk walk. The muscles in my shins were a little tight, but not what I would consider shin splints. I kept up a good pace, more steady than yesterday. I think yesterday could be considered performance anxiety. I was comfortable enough that I did my version of a slow jog for one lap.

The indoor track is very nice. It takes 13 laps to go one mile.

No matter where you are in the building you are never more than 30 feet from a staff member. It was comforting to see that I was not alone. Many geriatrics are there in the mornings utilizing the cardiac rehab that is offered. Several people my age, in my situation, older and over-weight and finally taking a stand for ourselves that no one else can take for us.

After walking approximately a mile, I did lower back and abs on Precor machines. I wasn't as overly cautious today on the weight. I didn't press my luck but I did use enough to feel resistance. Hopefully, by this time next week, I will have figured out the weight I need to be using for the results I want. Right now, I couldn't tell you what those are, other than I want to lose 60 pounds, I think that is reasonable. That will put me at 165. A realistic goal for my large 5'8" frame. Skinny isn't important to me, healthy is.

I used the Precor machines to do upper body today. I just tested them out, got the feel of them but didn't over do it on the weight. I have discovered that over all, I still have good strength for not doing much of anything for the past 5 years. On the down side, I do not have full extension of my arms when holding them over my head. Makes shaving a hit and miss event.

After two days I can tell a difference in the way my back feels. I have had lower back problems that I know are due to lack of core strength. I can feel my back muscles are not a tight. This is good.

Tomorrow I think I will go in the afternoon before work. There is a beginner's yoga class. I think that will be very good for my flexability and cardio.

I kept my caloric intake under 1800 and burned over 400!
