Banana Nilla Custard w/ whole milk

1/2  cup		sugar
2  tablespoons		cornstarch
1  cup		milk
6		eggs
2  teaspoons		vanilla extract
1  lb.		sliced bananas

In a small bowl, stir together sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt.
In a deep saucepan, whisk together eggs and milk.
Add sugar mixture to saucepan and set on medium heat.
With a wooden spoon, stir occasionally until mixture begins to steam.
Stir constantly until mixture is thick enough to coat the wooden spoon.
Remove saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

In a 2 quart shallow baking dish,
Lay down a layer of wafers and top with custard, then
Lay down a layer of bananas and top with custard, then
Repeat.
Wedge extra wafers around the edges as trim, or layer on top instead.
