Directions:  
Sift into a bowl: first 5 ingredients
In another bowl mix together: the rest of the ingredients except brown sugar (used for sprinkling)
Add the flour mixture to the oil-applesauce-carrot mixture, stirring to blend evenly.



Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper, if posibble because this makes it far easier to unmold the cake. Oil the parchment paper as well.

Pour in Cake mix, and sprinkle brown sugar

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Place the cake pans on a rack for 15 minutes. Then unmold the cake gently and allow it to cool thoroughly on the rack.
