The Formula For Calculating Target Heart Rate Range
Your target heart rate range is 86-134 beats per minute while training. The body has two sources of of energy glycogen (sugar) is stored in the muscle easiest form of energy for the body to use. Fat requires more work to be used as energy and your body resist using it unless it runs out of glycogen. You should deplete the glycogen in your muscles in about 10-15 minutes if you are exercising close to your target heart range of 134 . When the muscle run out of glycogen to burn it will begin to metabolizing fat as energy. 'Time is calories burned' heart rate is how fast you will get to that point were you start burning fat as energy. Calories burned is not going to change it's the type energy use that will change on your heart rate. We can measure that when we jump on the old weight scale. Clear as mud lol workerout tracker is ok if you want the calories burned to increase you have to put in more time.

Educate me please
Wow--I always thought that the higher heart rate for the workout the more calories burned....I am 63 yrs old and weight 114 lbs but like to keep my exercise target HR in the 150s which is higher than required for my age bc I think I will burn more calories. Guess I don't have to do that....Guess I should keep HR at 134 for a longer period of time. I really need to be more educated on this and do appreciate your input....

Yes always stay in your target heart range 134 which is working your heart at 85% of its max for your age. If you don't have much fat % and you have deplete the glycogen in your muscles your body then will start metablizing lean muscle tissue for energy. I like balanced and monitored nutritional intake when I train. I need to fuel my body to feel good and have lots of energy. For every pound lost 1/4 of that pound is lean muscle tissue and if you don't have much body fat that % can go higher. Cardio burns fat weight training increases lean muscle tissue.

So True
I've been trying to tell the same thing to women who want to lose weight, they need a balance of cardio and strength to see results.

Yes you need bf to have curves and muscle. Female 20-39 years old 21-33% bf 40-59 years old 23-34% bf 60-79 years old 24-36% bf. Male 20-39 years old 8-20% bf 40-59 years old 11-22% bf 60-79 years old 13-25% bf. Going under or over these targets is not good for a healthy body. Try to stay at the low end number also don't go over target heart range.
