Depends
The number of calories you eat each day is specific to each person. You need to find your BMR (basal metabolic rate), which is how many calories you burn doing absolutely nothing. You also however have to take into account the things you do during the day as well as any exercise. Once you have found that, if you want to lose weight you would want to eat about 300-500 calories less than that. This will keep you from loosing muscle and mainly burn fat.
Of course I'm not a doctor so check with yours before you start any type of diet or exercise program... Good luck

.
Skipping meals is never a good idea. You really should eat as close to every three hours as possible to keep your metabolism going, and not eating three hours before bed. If you're not eating enough and not getting the calories you need your body will go into starvation mode, storing as much fat as possible because it's not getting what it needs.
Like the OP you should find your BMR and break down your necessary calories into 4-6 meals per day, making sure you have a good balance of carbs, fat, and protein.
And just like my last post, not a doctor so check with yours...
