Over 50 and struggling with weight
I am just starting this program. I am a female over 50 and am having a lot of trouble losing weight. I have a sendentary job and am very tired when I get home. I need to lose about 40 lbs. Things I use to do to lose, don't seem to help now. I have done some snowshoeing, xcountry skiing this winter, and have a recumbent bike at home. I have gone for a couple of weeks on a low-fat diet and lost nothing.
Any suggestions as I am kind of discouraged with so many diet programs out there and trying to find one right for me. p.s. I do have fibromyalgia, but tried never to let that stop me, but I have to admit if I do a physical sport such as tennis, e.g....I hurt all over the next day. Anyone had similar situation and what did you do to keep pushing through to lose weight. Thanks!

don't ever stop
Watercolors,
I'm just under 50 and started my journey with somewhere in the 40 pounds to lose vicinity too. I lost close to half of that last spring thru fall and then kind of stalled out just holding my own thru the winter. A couple of weeks isn't very long, although I understand the wanting to just give up when the scale doesn't move at all. It takes more than exercise to lose weight. Use the calorie calculator here on fitclick to see how many calories you should take it. You never want to go below 1200-1300 calories because your body goes into starvation mode and then hangs on to every calorie you put in your mouth! I also have a sedentary job, but use my lunch hour to go to curves. you could use it to take a bit of a walk too. I don't worry about having to exercise for hours at a time. Instead, when I'm pressed for time, I break my exercise into smaller chunks of maybe 10 minutes at a time. Anything that gets you moving can be exercise. And water!!!! Lots of it. I never used to drink the stuff. When I started forcing myself to drink water, I saw a 3 pound weight loss in the first week! At that time I had barely started making the food changes and exercise changes I needed to, but seeing that 3 pounds drop off the scale really got me motivated! Spring is here so I'm hoping I can start seeing results again soon. Good luck!!
