yoga or pilates?
Have you tried yoga or pilates? They use your own body weight to stretch and strengthen muscles without the extra strain on your joints. You can go at your own pace, and many videos have an alternate exercise if you are not flexible enough to do the full pose. My favorite video is Yoga for Beginners by Yoga Zone. Other than that, if you have a gym membership, use the machines. They isolate each muscle, while supporting the rest of your body...so you are only working out what you want to work out and not hurting anything. That said, strengthening your core (ab muscles) will help take the strain off of your back (make sure you choose exercises that will keep your back supported at the same time). Knees are tricky...I don't feel confident enough to offer a suggestion for those. Maybe ask a personal trainer?
