So how is the food tracking going?  It is not an easy job by any means.  So here is a question for you:  Are you weighing and measuring your food?

Do not get me wrong, there are techniques for figuring out food through general guessing, like a deck of cards is 4 ounces of meat, your fist, etc.  I am not knocking them at all.

However, the most accurate ways to measure are measuring spoons, cups and a digital scale.  Most everyone has the spoons and cups, but as soon as I mention the scale hesitation ensues.

The one thing we do not do as women is invest in ourselves.  Time or money.  If your child, parent, significant other needed to lose weight in order to live you would move heaven and earth to get the tools needed.  So why would you not do this for yourself?

One of the keys to weight loss success is to make yourself a priority.  YOU NEED TO SEE YOURSELF AS AN INVESTMENT WORTH MAKING!

In the beginning it seems overwhelming especially for people who may be living paycheck to paycheck.  However, I learned that once I started cooking in proportion to what we should eat, stop eating out all the time, and not waste money on processed food that I actually saved money.

The point of writing down what you eat during the week provides accountibility for caloric intake.  Part of why I asked you start writing it down without thinking about caloric intake is to see what you eat.

Do you eat out a lot so because you didn't plan well?  Do you make a lot of food that you end up throwing away?  For my family 1 pound of meat is one meal.  However, I would make a 5 pound roast.  We either had to eat way more than we wanted so it wouldn't waste or throw it out.

By getting portions under control in the end, we saved money which made the fresh foods we weren't eating possible.  We also stopped eating out so much and cut the coffee drinks.

As far as time goes, again you must decide to make yourself an investment.  Can you use a smart phone?  Can you take a few extra minutes on the weekend to plan your weeks meals?  Then all you have to do is click a couple of times, if you stuck to the plan.

There was one woman who complained to me that her kids called when she was doing her food log, interupting her everytime.  My question was, have you explained to them that you are busy at that time?  Although it sounds cruel, if you said to your kids, "Hey, this is the time I use to log in my meals because if I have boderline diabetes.  I don't want this illness.  It causes blindness, nueropathy, heart problems, and can cause death.  I want to be around to talk to you for years to come.  Can you call a half hour later every night please?"

If you were as out of control as I was, the reality is your life will probably be dramatically shortened by your choice.  It is time that you realize you are an investment worth making and those who love you will not like change at first, but will grow used to it.  YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT.  Keep up the good work.
