After reaching the highest weight in my life (275 lbs.) and finally becoming pissed off enough at the way that I feel and the way that I look, I have committed to making a fitter me. My clothes don't fit. I feel miserable much of the day. I have a low energy level. I hate shopping for clothes because nothing fits. I'm taking pills for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. And, I'm afraid that I may die while my kids are still young if I don't fix me fast.
My long term goals are simple and there are 6:
1. Reduce weight to 175 pounds...a loss of 100 pounds.
2. Reduce waist size from 54" to 32"...wow! that's almost 2 feet!!
3. Reduce BMI from 40 to 20...cutting me in half...
4. Increase chest size from 46" to 54"...but with muscle not with fat.
5. Increase arm size from 14.5" to 22"...again with muscle, not with fat.
6. Eliminate the need for prescription medicine for blood pressure and cholesterol.
These goals will take a long time to reach, I'm sure, but as long as I'm headed in the right direction, I will be happy. My first short-term goals are: (1) lost 10 pounds, (2) reduce waist size to 52", (3) reduce BMI by 1 point to 39, (4) increase chest size to 46", and (5) increase arm size to 16". As each of these is reached, I will add a new goal for that area.
At the beginning of October, 2012, Francesca's (my daughter) move to the swim team and Thomas' (my son) swim lesson time remaining later resulted in longer stretches of time at the YMCA...eliminating any excuse for not working out while I was there. However, since I hadn't worked out in forever and spent a few workouts figuring out the right weights for different exercises, I don't feel like I'm been working out that long yet, although I have increased the weight being lifeted in every exercise that I'm currently doing. So, I consideder November 1 as my "official" start toward going "from obese to oh my!."
To reach these goals, I am committed to working out at the YMCA for at least 1 hour per session on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I will work out at home on Saturdays and Sundays.
Now...it's time to start moving "from obese to oh my!"...
