A serious beginning...

Today, I had my initial session with my new personal trainer.  At first, I wasn't sure he would be the right type since he seems to always be fit and I, well, have struggled...especially the past 20 years or so.  But he shared that he used to run, loved it but that his knees won't allow it anymore.  Given that I tore my MCL last October, it was nice to know someone who would be sensitive to my joint weakness.  Further, he understands how devastating a sports injury is to someone my age so we will proceed with a "do no harm" parameter.

We did some baseline tests.  Resting blood pressure 121/78 with a 93 pulse rate.  After a 3 min step test, my pulse rate went to 120.  My flexibility test showed a 9" stretch vs a 15" norm -- so I was in the "fair" category.  Likewise on the push up test (did only 11 before my form broke down).  Bottom line:  I have a long way to go.

Took a tour of the facilities.  We are going to do stretches and ab work every day.  We will do alternating strength exercises and cardio work.  One of the areas to focus on is my hips and strengthening my weaker leg (left side) to minimize compensating...

I'm excited!
