1. Organizational Settings

The first option would be skilled nursing facilities. This is where nursing is performed by use of facilities available and ensuring the facilities do not harm patient .The second would be surgery centers. This refers to the place where surgery takes place and the maintenance practices that must be followed in order to conduct a successful surgery. It also involves studying the nature of an illness before taking the action of treating a disease. The third one will be urgent care centers. This refers to the emergency rooms where patients who need immediate care are placed and provided with immediate medical attention such as first aid. This is an exemplification paper which demonstrates the importance of this topic.

There are a number of reasons why the above sections of health care have been selected. For instance, skilled nursing facilities has been considered to be the most important factor towards achieving a success in a health setting because health care cannot be achieved if there are no facilities that can be used to manage these health care needs of patients. It is also important because this section of health care service helps in determining the nature of training that health practitioners need to have in order to serve effectively and also be able to use instruments and facilities at the hospital for the benefit of patients.

The other area of medical practice that has been ranked to be the second most important in health practice is the surgery centers. This refers to the areas in a health care environment where surgery of patients takes place. This area is important because it is an area that requires high concentration and focus on instructions to be performed after surgery such as care for the patient.

The third condition in a health care setting that is considered important in health care practice and management is the urgent care centers. These are areas where urgent assistance is provided to patients who need them and can face serious consequences if not attended to.

2. Leadership

An example of a situation where I was effective as a leader of a healthcare environment is where I was the leader of the pharmacy department in a medical facility that served students, staff and families of staff in the University in Canada. I applied the leadership concept of charismatic leadership to meet my objectives of serving patients effectively. This is a leadership concept where a person shows the attitude of being interested in what he is involved in and performing duties with interest and concentration. It involves acting as an example to other employees in the significance of being interested on an activity that a person is involved in. For instance, my subordinates observed that I always reported to work the earliest and never relented towards providing assistance to patients who were supposed to be provided with drugs.

In addition, I always checked if drugs were available in the stores and inform the doctor in charge of the hospital to make orders for the drugs at the right time so that patients did not lack drugs that were important for their health. My subordinates observed my charisma in the pharmacy department and they also became energetic towards their activities within the department. For instance, they could respond to instructions quickly and also ensure all activities under their responsibility were performed without being supervised. Due to my charismatic leadership style, my department was voted the most effective for three consecutive years and no complaint was heard from patients about lack of drugs or services whenever they were in need of drugs and other prescription services.

An example of a situation where I was ineffective is where I was the team leader of a group of health professionals that included nurses and doctors in emergency assistance services. I was supposed to make arrangements for the delivery of First Aid materials as well as vehicles to the health facility where I worked. In addition, I was supposed to make sure all records of staff in my department such as work attendance and their effectiveness in their work are properly kept and updated. However, I forgot to order the First Aid materials but I was informed by an employee about the absence of these materials in advance so that activities in my department were not affected in any way.

In addition, my assistant in the office informed me that I had not updated employee information in my department any day I forgot to do so. This ensured that despite my ineffectiveness, I was able to perform my duties well due to transformational leadership style implemented in our health facility. This is a leadership style where both employees and managers empower each other in the areas of weakness to improve their competencies in their work. It is a form of leadership that exists between leaders and members of an organization as well as between leaders and clients. By getting reminders from my subordinates, I was able to transform my leadership and become more responsible as a leader of the department in the subsequent days of my work as the head of that department. Also, by engaging with the subordinates, I was able to raise my leadership to another level of morality and responsibility to my work. I was able to mobilize resources so that the emergency services were provided to patients as a result of motivation from my subordinates. This ensured the mission of the organization of providing efficient emergency services was achieved.

There are three major personal leadership development goals that a professional in a health care setting must try to achieve. These include integrity, communication and diligence or working with little supervision. Integrity refers to a quality of being true in thoughts and actions. Integrity is a leadership quality that will ensure a manager in a health institution does not overcharge customers for the same services that are charged fair in other cases. In addition, communication is a significant attribute that a manager in a health institution must have. This enables him communicate effectively with staff and patients and share the experiences of patients so that assistance can be provided to them. It is also through communication that a state of togetherness is demonstrated in a health setting. Thus, when a manager in a health institution is able to communicate, a number of lack of connection issues are solved and patients are provided with an idea of the nature of health care practice they need to seek.

Diligence is an important attribute for a health professional because it ensures the professional works with little supervision and also meets the objectives of his tasks such as providing medical assistance to a patient. Through diligence, it is possible to work for longer hours with the goal of being helpful to the patients without compulsion from the top management. Through being diligent, it is possible to provide quality medical assistance to patients and cases of patients returning to their homes due to lack of medical attention can be avoided.
